Oahu tourism is centred almost exclusively around Waikiki Beach. There are a few other places to stay around the island, but seeing as all regions can be easily explored on a day tour, and given the world reputation of Waikiki Beach, it is easy to see why it attracts more tourists than any other island. Apart from the magnificent and action packed beach scene of Waikiki, the island offers some of the best golf courses in Hawaii, and certainly the best surfing waves along the raging north coast.
Oahu is the main island of Hawaii with the capital Honolulu and world famous Waikiki Beach where over 90% of the islands hotels are located. Unlike anywhere else in the South Pacific, Waikiki Beach is a holiday enclave with lots of high rise hotels crammed alongside a gorgeous long sandy swimming beach.
Oahu is also recognised as having the most challenging and scenic golf courses. Day tours are plentiful and pick up from the Waikiki hotels although few are truly unique and stunning sights are limited compared to the other islands. Oahu is probably the only island you needn't hire a car. Ironically, for many, Oahu is the only island visited in their trip and is a particular favourite amongst young Japanese tourists.
Our guide is full of pictures and maps to give you a clear impression of the region. We also provide useful links throughout our text so you can find out more about tours and accommodation and make reservations.
